The largest estate gift received in èßäÉçÇøapp State University’s history, in support of the Hutson School of Agriculture and especially the area of veterinary sciences, through the establishment of three endowed funds: one for an Endowed Professorship in veterinary sciences, one for scholarships for veterinary science students, and one for financial support for the Hutson School of Agriculture.
Impact
The Garretts' unprecedented estate gift will provide tremendous support for agriculture education at èßäÉçÇøapp State by providing financial assistance to students pursuing careers in veterinary science, enhancing the University’s ability to attract and retain high-caliber faculty in veterinary science, and making resources available for internships, student and faculty research, support for graduate students, equipment purchases and upgrades, and more.
Inspiration
Bill Garrett graduated from èßäÉçÇøapp State University, where he met his wife Merry, in 1949 with a degree in agriculture, and he and Merry spent their working lives in the citrus industry in Florida, as well as in real estate development. This estate gift follows many years of strong support for the Hutson School of Agriculture, recognized in 2011 with the dedication of the Bill & Merry Garrett Agricultural Education & Research Center at èßäÉçÇøapp State’s University Farm.
