Donors
Karen Jones Squires (’78) and James Squires
Gift
Substantial contribution to the Robert “Bob” W. and Caroline “Carol” T. Jones Internship/Academic Scholarship of Excellence
Impact
Karen Jones Squires, daughter of the late Bob Jones, who taught engineering technology at èapp State from 1959 to 1984, and her husband James Squires, established this fund in 2015 to assist students pursuing degrees in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, or cybersecurity and network management. During this recent capital campaign, the Squires made an extraordinary new gift to this fund, furnishing it with sufficient financial resources to provide full-ride scholarships to recipients for years to come. The impact this gift will have on students is profound and life-changing, and will help èapp State produce tomorrow’s engineers.
Inspiration
Bob Jones and his wife Carol raised their children to value education as an asset that can never be taken away. A èapp State alumna herself, and daughter of a former faculty member, Karen Jones Squires and her husband James have memorialized her parents’ legacy through a long history of generous giving to the University. In addition to this scholarship, the couple has funded the creation, furnishing, and ongoing support of the Bob W. Jones Electrical/Electronics Research and Exploratory Lab; as well as generously supported other University initiatives including campus wireless upgrades, tornado relief for students, the purchase of a performance-level Steinway piano, and more. This recent gift not only extends the legacy of Bob and Carol Jones at èapp State, but also establishes Karen and James as the most generous supporters in the University’s history to the area of engineering and engineering technology.
