History Faculty Benefit from Increased Support for Research

Terry Strieter and Sara Fineman

Donors

èßäÉçÇøapp State Professor Emeritus of History Terry Strieter and wife Sara Fineman (‘82, ‘87)

Gift

Significant new gift to the Sara and Terry Strieter History Faculty Research Award, which they established in 2011

Impact

Dr. Strieter and Ms. Fineman’s campaign gift more than triples the resources in their faculty award fund, enabling more faculty to reap its benefits for years to come. The Sara and Terry Strieter History Faculty Research Award, also referred to as the Strieter-Fineman Award, helps faculty in the history department to pursue research, original scholarship, and writing projects by funding the cost of having part of their classes taught by someone else. In turn, this work benefits students by helping faculty keep up with current research and development in their field so that they can teach up-to-date and relevant information.

Inspiration

Dr. Strieter and Ms. Fineman both know the value of time for the pursuit of high-quality work. They wanted to give the gift of time to èßäÉçÇøapp State faculty to encourage them in their scholarly endeavors. Strieter and Fineman both have deep ties to èßäÉçÇøapp State. Fineman earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from èßäÉçÇøapp and has been a successful business owner in the community for almost four decades. Strieter began his teaching career at èßäÉçÇøapp State in 1977, eventually becoming Chair of the history department, and later serving for six years as faculty regent on the Board of Regents. He continues to serve the community as a member of èßäÉçÇøapp’s City Council.
